Be it known far and wide that Captain Dragon and the crew of the Firedrake invite all privateers, scoundrels, scallywags, cutthroats, pirates, rogues, corsairs, freebooters and buccaneers to rendezvous with us for a Grand Pirate Fête on the shores of the beautiful Pacific Ocean.

Join us as we partake of the pleasures of song, grub, and grog in a tropical paradise with its own private beach. In the grand tradition of the scourge of the Spanish Main, for three days in April of the year 2005, the port of San Diego shall be transformed into a place where the romance and adventure of the high seas lives on.

So weigh anchor, open a cask of rum, hoist your pirate flag and set sail for the tranquil shores of San Diego. There you will be greeted with treasure to hunt, song to enliven the night, stout, handsome men of the sea and saucy wenches aplenty. There will be a Pirate's Bazaar filled with exotic and rare plunder from the far corners of the known world. Feast in buccaneer style in a secluded private cove while you catch up with old crew mates and swap tall tales with rival captains. The tavern is stocked and ready to slake a mighty pirate thirst.

Grand adventures await and the tales to be told when all is done will go down as legend for many a year to come.

Live boldly today! For tomorrow the Crown may hang us all!

For a good part of Convergence history, the event has had a theme associated with it. We thought that a pirate theme would be great fun so we took the idea and ran with it. Some might think the theme is not spooky enough, but hey, we have more skulls and bones on this site than any previous proposal. It is hard to argue that tales of dead men, epic drama, storms, wrecks, buried treasure, rogues, scoundrels and saucy wenches aren't appropriate for the Net.Goth scene.

The setting of our waterfront Hotel is perfect for this sort of event and the costume possibilities are endless. We hope that the Convergence attendees will join us in the spirit of the theme and enjoy playing the part of the Scourge of the Seas with us for a weekend of great fun.

An historical note: The flags in the border at the left are all reasonable facsimiles of designs known to have been used by actual, historical pirates. The map image on the site background is derived from the Piri Reis Map which is believed to have been drawn in 1513. The Piri Reis Map is currently a part of the art collection of the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, Turkey.

There are nine flags in the border. In order from top to bottom they are:

  • John Rackham (Calico Jack)
  • Henry Every
  • Edmund Condent
  • Richard Worley
  • Edward Teach (Blackbeard)
  • Thomas Tew
  • Stede Bonnet
  • Christopher Moody
  • Edward England
