The Convergence 11 San Diego Committee is pleased to present the Shelter Pointe Hotel and Marina as the official event hotel. Located on the San Diego Bay waterfront, this incredible Spanish-style resort hotel stands ready to host Convergence guests should the voters select San Diego as the host city for Convergence 11.
Situated on 11 acres of lush tropical gardens at the Western end of Shelter Island, the hotel is a perfect place for Convergence 11 in 2005. The Shelter Pointe Hotel offers 206 guest rooms including 26 Junior Suites and 5 two-story Townhouse Suites. We have reserved 75% of the hotel guest rooms for the exclusive use of Convergence attendees starting on Thursday April 21, 2005 through Sunday April 24, 2005. This hotel presents a unique and intimate setting for Convergence that complements the theme we have selected with the added attraction of the hotel being nearly taken over by our group. We have been assured that if we can sell out the hotel, all rooms will be available to us at the event rates.
The Shelter Pointe Hotel is located just a few minutes away from the San Diego International Airport and has a complimentary shuttle on call between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM, seven days a week to get guests to and from the airport, the train station and the Greyhound Bus depot. For those who arrive when the hotel shuttle is not operating or who would prefer not to wait for the shuttle, we recommend Cloud 9 Shuttle. Cloud 9 will get you to the hotel quickly for just $6.50 per person in a shared shuttle van. Cloud 9 can also provide private sedans and limousines for a higher fare. For those driving in or renting a car during their stay, there is a large parking lot on site that is patrolled by security officers 24 hours a day. Parking in the lot is a maximum of $10 per day ($2 per hour up to the maximum). The hotel is located just a few miles from Downtown San Diego where our probable evening event venue is located. It is located in a secluded area but is convenient and close to many of San Diego's abundant tourist attractions, restaurants and shopping opportunities.
We have negotiated a special group rate of $130.00 per night for single or double occupancy for standard guest rooms. Additional people are $15 per person per night (up to four persons total per room, this additional charge does not apply to Townhouse Suites). Junior Suites and Townhome Suites are available at higher prices. The event room rates are good for up to three days prior to the event weekend and up to three days after for those who wish to extend their vacation to see the sights the San Diego area has to offer. This hotel has some wonderful amenities including a first-class health club and spa, a great restaurant, onsite bar, and its own private beach. The health club rents bicycles to guests and there are several tennis courts onsite available for guest use. The lobby doubles as a comfortable lounge area with an assortment of tables, chairs, sofas and chaise lounges. An upstairs loft area with a baby grand piano and a computer available for guest use, presents another comfortable area to socialize and hang out.
In addition to the standard items one would expect of any quality hotel room, each room has a refrigerator, coffee maker and hair dryer. All of the suites have microwave ovens with each of the Townhouse Suites also having a stove and a dishwasher.
Almost every guest room in the hotel has its own balcony or patio area and nearly all rooms have a wonderful view of either the bay or the marina. All guest rooms have large sliding doors opening directly to the outside and the perfect weather with cool ocean breezes that is common during April in San Diego. The Shelter Pointe Hotel has indicated to us that they are going to be installing high speed data ports for Internet access in each guest room. Details on the availability and pricing of this service will be made available as soon as we are provided with more information by the hotel management. If this service is not available, we will be attempting to negotiate with the hotel to allow us to install a wireless gateway with high speed Internet access for the use of Convergence attendees.
