San Diego is the second largest city in California and the
seventh largest city in the nation. It has a very diverse population with
people from all over the world and all regions of the nation. This diversity
of culture is reflected in the culinary scene of San Diego with just about
every type of cuisine imaginable being represented somewhere in the area.
Mexican cuisine is very well represented as would be expected with San Diego
being as close to Mexico as it is. Asian cuisines are also very common with
Mandarin, Cantonese, Szechuan, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, Filipino,
Indian and Afghan cuisines being readily available. Spanish, Italian and French
restaurants are common along with more American, casual dining and upscale
California and Nouveau cuisine.
Sitting on the shores of the Pacific Ocean and situated near
the farmlands of California, San Diego is blessed with outstanding seafood and
incredible produce. Excellent sushi, seafood and vegetarian dishes are common in
many restaurants. No matter what one might be craving, it is likely it can be
found somewhere within the city.
Below you will find a sample listing of restaurants of various
styles. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list by any means, it is intended
to show what is located within a reasonable distance of the official hotel and
also to show which places the committee recommends for your dining pleasure. The
restaurants in the list will generally be within roughly ten miles of the hotel but
recommended establishments may be further away.
SanDiegoRestaurants.com and
SignOnSanDiego.com both offer much more comprehensive listings which you can search
by cuisine, location, price, name, and theme.
There is no separate listing for vegetarian restaurants as many
establishments in San Diego cater to vegetarians as well as those who eat meat.
Good bets for vegetarian cuisine are the Indian, Thai, Chinese and some of the
contemporary and fine dining establishments.
One final note, we are not listing fast food places. They
abound within a couple of miles of the hotel and most of the major chains and several
local establishments are represented.
