Events
Of course you can expect all the usual
Convergence activities: Meet and Greet,
ElderGoth Reception, Vendors Bazaar, Fashion
Show, Shopping trips to the Haight,
China Town and the Mission, Group dinners and
brunches, Picnic in Golden Gate
Park. Roundtable meeting of club promoters, DJs
and bands, But we will also
bring you some experiences unique to the San
Francisco Goth Scene:
- A Dance Dance Revolution Tournament at the Sony
Metreon
- A Naval Battle: Picture this: Hundreds of Goths.
In boats. With Supersoakers.
The Naval Battle is a yearly SF Goth tradition,
and this year we are inviting
you to join in the mayhem
- We are considering a numebr of group tours (final
offerings to be determine by
your interest)
- The Rock (Alcatraz, not the wrestler)
- Winchester Mystery House (which, while a ways
away, is well worth it).
- Cathedral Tour (There are several NICE Cathedrals
and Churches in SF, including
one with Flying Buttresses. Can it get more
Goth?)
- A Grave Yard Tour (Colma which has many, in fact
in Colma there are more people
dead than alive and Piedmont Cemetery, actually
it is called Mountain View
Cemetery but it is in the Piedmont area of the
East Bay.
Think of it as the Disneyland of cemeteries.)
Both are outside of SF and but for
the adventurous, they are worth the travel.
- A Sushi Tour (S.F. is FILLED with many good Sushi
Bars, several of which even
have themes, such as Blowfish which is decked out
in Anime.
- Golden Gate Park Tour (Which has the following;
The Academy of
Sciences/Planetarium/Laserium, a Giant Celtic
Cross, a great Merry-Go-Round,
beautiful Windmills, a Japanese Tea Garden, a
Shakespeare Garden, a Rose
Garden, an Arboretum, and even Buffalos.)
- A Thrift Store Tour. All over SF there are Thrift
Stores and Second Hand
Clothing Stores. We will be making a Tour or
listing of them all with
descriptions of their size and contents.
After dark, we are planning the following for
your entertainment:
- Thursday: An unofficial nite at a San Francisco
Gothic/Industrial club
- Friday: 2-3 bands, DJs and Socializing
- Saturday: 2-3 bands, DJs, and Socializing
- Sunday: The Convergence 8 Grande Costume Ball.
This years presentation is....Le
Cabaret des âmes perdues:
- The Late 1800's: Europe is a land of strict morals and
a rigid Society. In the
Western United States the thirst for gold and
land leads to the dust and grim of
reality. Both sought escape and release in
Burlesque.
- 1870's San Francisco: Beneath the City's shining
lights are lost souls caught in
a world of thievery, prostitution and opium dens.
They sought escape in The
Burlesque.
- 1930's Berlin: The pre-Hitler society watched
helplessly as their souls were
crushed by the Nazi party's inexorable climb to
power. They sought escape in the
Cabaret.
- 2002 San Francisco: It's time to bend time and
space and to hell with Einstein.
Dust off your pantaloons and your little solider
boy outfits, for we present you
with Le Cabaret Burlesque des âmes perdues!!
Vintage-philesand Fetish-ites, it's
time to let it all down and have some FUN! Get
your petticoats, your officer's
uniform, your vintage suits, your corsets, your
ruffles, your top hats and your
canes out of the closet. For this night we
revel in the loss of our souls. Dress to the
heights of your most decadent
Burlesque, Cabaret, Turn of the Century or 1930's
vintage. All are welcome and
None are turned away!
But we dont want to burden you with feeling you
must participate in all of this,
Convergence should
be about spontaneity, relaxation and "having it
your way". (Extra tomato? fries
with that?)
About Bands:
First, we should make it clear: It is our belief
that Convergence should not be
about bands. Convergence is about meeting people.
And standing around watching
a band is not exactly conducive to meeting
people.
Experiencing the club scene of a city is. Dancing
is. Getting to know the parts
of the city we, as goths, would appreciate, is.
Shopping, eating in
restaurants, causing mayhem in the streets, THOSE
are all conducive to meeting
people.
At the same time, Convergence is a
alt.gothic/net.goth gathering , and music is
a large part of what Gothic is about. So we do
plan to bring some great bands
to Convergence 8. Bands will be presented in a
non-concert, club like
atmosphere, with choices between band watching,
socializing and dancing to DJs
We will primarily draw from local and west coast
bands, but we have the ability
to deliver major artists. However we will not
compromise our budgets or the
atmosphere of Convergence in order to book name
bands. This is about community,
not celebrity.
