of Paradise Lost from the turn of the century and and older copy of
Dante's Inferno... for less then twenty dollars (Canadian, hehe). A
wonderful place to spend some time. Knowledgeable, interesting
staff, great prices.

The grandfather of roleplaying stores, Le Valet d'Coeur has been

and now offers a bit of everything. They have a large selection of
role-playing games, naturally, as well as celtic jewelry, trading
cards, chess sets, figurines, tarot cards, plastic models, knick-
knacks, and a very impressive selection of graphic novels and
alternative comics. They carry JTHM, most of the trade paperback
Sandman, and nameless other very cool comics and animated
works. Prices are average and sometimes a little on the high end,
but the place is a wonderful place to wander around and let yourself

Music
Archambeault
500 Ste-Catherine E.
(514) 849-6202
In the downtown area.
The big french music shop in Montréal. Their massive building
houses an enormous selection of french music as well as a fair
selection of everything else. Goth and indsutrial friendly music is
hit or miss and tends to be very highly priced, even for imports.
Worth checking out if you've got the time and haven't found what
you're looking for elsewhere.
Atom Heart
364-B Sherbrooke St E
(514) 843-8484
The small, tucked-away storefront of Atom Heart proves that often the best gifts come in small packages. Located on Sherbrooke just west of St.Denis, the deceptively small display area is packed full of CDs (packaged without the jewel cases to minimize the space required).
They specialize in experimental music and ambient techno and have a very good selection. Fans of Legendary Pink Dots, Death in June, Einsturbzende Neubauten and such groups will be more then pleased.
With references to similar groups on the dividers people can not
only find the groups they like, but will also have a chance to
discover new sounds as well. Extremely knowledgable and friendly
staff. Fair prices (much of what they carry are imports, so prices
might be a little higher).

Beatnick Records
3770 St Denis
In the Plateau Mont Royal area.
A second hand music shop that always has a good selection and a
variety of musical styles.
CD Esoterik
1841-C St.Catherine West
(514) 937-5192
In the downtown area.
Specializing in obscure music this little record shop is a gem for
lovers of the stranger stuff. While not being specifically gothy, they
certainly are goth friendly and stock tons and tons of experimental
music. You can often fine Death In June or Legendary Pink
Dots used, a definite rarity around these parts. They carry new
and used, all for eminently reasonable prices. A hidden gem for
experimental music lovers. Good, knowledgable staff.
C Dement
388 St.Catherine West
(514) 866-7616
In the downtown area.
This fairly large used record shop carries a little bit of everything.
They've got a goth section, which is usually extremely small and
unintersting. Good goth or industrial finds can often be found in the
metal or rock sections however, although sometimes it takes allot
of sifting to pull out one or two decent finds. Still, prices are good
and the store is pleasant and not cramped. They also carry french
BD (European comics/graphic novels) and have an extensive
selection.
Cheap Thrills
2044 Metcalfe
(514) 844-8988
Downtown.
Usually hit-or-miss in terms of selection, this cramped little shop
has some very interesting stuff nonetheless. Goth and industrial
are mixed into the rest of the stuff so sifting is required. They have
a fairly good selection of classical and movie soundtracks. They
are also a used book store and as they are located right beside
Concordia University they tend to carry books that would appeal to
students. A good place to spend a half hour.
Disquivel
1587 St Laurent
(514) 842-1607
A good selection of alternative, punk, goth, and industrial music.
The goth and industrial are mixed in with the alternative section and
you might find Christian Death in the metal section. Fair
prices, lots of space, and a good selection of vinyl for the oldschool
scenesters who think CDs are just too new.
HMV
1010 Ste-Catherine W (Peel Metro)
Downtown.
A lot of decent goth stuff at reasonable prices. The goth tends to be
mixed in with the alternative, so it may take some sifting to find it.
L'Échange
713 Mont-Royal E (Mont-Royal Metro)
(514) 523-6389
3694 St-Denis
(514) 849-1913
With two locations in the
Plateau Mont Royal area
L'Échange is one of the mainstays of the Montréal
used record shops. They've
been around forever and are still a good place to look for stuff.
Since they're pretty big they tend to not really know what they've
got, so you might find a great goth group in the new age section.
Most of the interesting stuff is in the alternative and rock sections.
They've got a small selection of records as well as french BD
(european comics/graphic novels) and French literature (yes... in
french). Prices vary from good to fair. Both shops carry similar
stuff, but as they're a used shop it will be somewhat different.
L'Oblique
4333 Rivard (Mont-Royal Metro)
Plateau Mont Royal area.
Caters mainly to the alternative set but occasionally has some
good finds.
Marché Du Disque
793 Mont-Royal E (Mont-Royal Metro)
In the
Plateau Mont Royal area.
New and used CDs. The occasional good find.

please just about any music junkie.
