La Casa Minhota
3959 St.Laurent

Located along the hyperactive St. Laurent strip in the popular
Plateau Mont-Royal
district, Casa Minhota will allow for a good, affordable meal away
from the mading crowds of trendy
shoppers. The food is very good and the portions are large and not
high-priced. I ordered an entree of clams (a rarity in Montréal where
mussels seem to be the shellfish of preference, at least when it comes
to entrees) in a white wine and butter sauce that left me wondering why
every restaurant doesn't serve similar fare. The service was fair and
the decor was acceptable, albeit a little plain. Nonetheless, I strongly
recommend this place if you're in the mood for good food without paying
a small fortune.

This is by far one of the best Brazilian restaurants I have ever

Le Milsa
1445 Bishop
(514) 985-0777
A Brazilian restaurant located right in the heart of
downtown Montréal, Le Milsa
is not you average restaurant. Firstly, their menu only features three
options, and two of the options are more-or-less standard choices
(roast quail and a fish dish of some sort). The primary choice, which
has been interestingly called "The Turnstile", is the house specialty.
The customer is served the expected starters (salad, some marinated
mushrooms, pickles, etc) and then, every ten minutes or so, the waiters
bring one of ten different types of meat, straight from their wood
grill. They continue to bring different types of meat until the
customer asks them to stop. They claim they will feed you until you
beg them to stop, although I never actually had to beg. Perhaps I'm
just exceptionally persuasive. The quality is excellent, and the
service is friendly yet very professional. Strongly recommended.
Prices range from $20-$35 per person.

Located on the

not far from St. Viatur Bagel and Fairmount bagel, this inexpensive
little Peruvian restaurant boasts that it is "the place for the
Peruvian food". While the menu lacks some variety it makes up for it
with a consistant quality in the dishes they serve. Their fish and
seafood dishes are especially good, and they are one of the few
restuarants that I've been to that serve Inca Cola. Recommended.

La Raclette

This charming establishment, located at the corner of Gilford
and Christophe-Colomb in the
Plateau,
is one of my favourites.
One of the few good restaurants that specializes in Swiss
cuisine, and other European specialities. The raclette entrée
is a must for cheese lovers. Be sure to bring a bottle of nice wine
to accompany your meal. Yes, that's right! You get to bring your
own, so you're not being overcharged for your alcohol. You may
want to make a reservation if you are going on the weekend, as
it is often busy.
