Bella Morte
Based out of Charlottesville, Virginia, Bella Morte is defined by
their unique hybrid of gothic, synthpop, punk, and darkwave. Formed
by Andy Deane and Gopal Metro in 1996, the band went on to win the
1997 Virginia Battle of the Bands, and used the proceeds to record
their first full length album, Remains. In 1999, the band
followed up with Where Shadows Lie, which included their
first club hit, The Rain Within Her Hands. Picked up by
Cleopatra Records in 2000, the album was reissued with two new
tracks included, featuring Bn Whitlow on guitar. This album,
coupled with their energetic live performances, quickly propelled
them up the ranks of the gothic-industrial scene.
Now, with a new album due out this year, and a record-setting U.S.
tour with the Cruxshadows behind them, Bella Morte is gearing up for
their biggest year yet, kicking off their 2002 international tour at
Convergence VIII: Montréal.

This Ascension
This Ascension formed in 1988 as a dark alternative to the usually
sunny music of their hometown of Santa Barbara, California. Taking
their early cues from The Cure, The Chameleons, and just about every
4AD band at the time, their debut album Tears In Rain earned
the band comparisons to Area, Xmal Deutschland, and even pop fair
such as 10,000 Maniacs. Later releases moved more towards the
ethereal-gothic realm and their 1999 release Sever proved to
be their most varied, drawing on influences ranging from Early Music
to the progressive rock/ambient/tribal offerings of the Real World label.
The band's live reputation proceeds them, with live shows combining
ethereal beauty and a powerful rock presence, and over the course of
their career
they have shared the stage with noted acts such as Clan of Xymox,
Jesus & Mary Chain, Chris Isaak, Wolfgang Press and The Pixies,
to name a few. This spring, This Ascension's trademark blend of
stinging guitar pyrotechnics, ethereal keyboard washes and multi-octave,
multi-syllabic vocal swirls comes to the stage at Convergence VIII.

CMAFA(wTwatsadatw)
Captain Matt's Armada Featuring Axel, the legendary early 80's
punk-goth band, has reformed for a very special command performance at
Convergence VIII. They burst onto the scene with the brilliant single
Gland Ho, and for a few glorious years, it seemed as though nothing
could touch the Armada. Reunited for the first time since their 1995
break up, Captain Matt's Armada Featuring Axel (where Trevor writes
all the songs and does all the work), as they are now called, will
pick up anew the mantle they cast aside so carelessly in their youth.
Is the world ready?"

DJs

Doc Pain
After quitting his band "Morganas Death" in the early 90's, DJ Dr.
Pain (please, call him just Doc) started out as resident DJ in the
old Stingray club, located in south Germany. He has done a lot
collaborations with some of Germany's finest goth DJ's, and in 2001,
he started the now defunct "Glam, Gloom and Goth'n'Roll" night in the
famous Blackout club. Since mid 2001, he has been running
Wardance -
The Other Goth Club, together with DJ Lucretia.
He's one of the DJ's who helped to re-establish deathrock in Germany
over the last few years, so C8 attendees can expect a more "old school" set,
with a few surprises.
