HotelThe Omni has revised their cost for room rates.Omni Hotel. It is in Downtown Atlanta and faces the Olympic Centennial Park. It has a number of restaurants nearby, several meeting rooms and several large ball room spaces in a convention center just about the right size for us. Rates for rooms at the Omni hotel have been revised to $99 for a single/double occupancy and $109 for a triple/quad occupancy. The Omni is starting to look better and better for us as a venue. Travel time to L5P and Virginia Highlands from the Omni is about 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. Points of interest nearby are CNN (in the same complex), Centennial Park, and underground Atlanta. The Omni Hotel hosted Atlanta Fantasy Fair a number of years ago. It most recently hosted a local Hacker con. Strangeness isn't terribly strange to them. One other interesting facet of the Omni hotel is the downstairs location of the Turner Store. While I like my company, some things aren't so hot. (baseball doesn't entertain me...) They do have rather neat Cartoon Network stuff for sale. So those that like Power Puff girls and other CN things, you have an easy source.... Baby GothsAs has been seen on usenet, there has been discussion of the extreme end of the young crowd of goths. Specifically, the little ones. The Omni hotel has a number of small rooms just off of the main floor that would work for a stand in evening care place for tots and tykes. We'd see about arranging a special accomodation for those that have little ones to come. We figure it'd cost around $10 or so for a kiddie package for the really baby goths. This would include a laminate and perhaps a grab bag of toys. Though, thinking about it, many of the adults would also like such a grab bag. Air TravelWe have gathered sample fares for air travel for your comparison to other bids. BandsSome folks have had questions as to the plans for a band night in our bid. We fully intend on having a set of bands on Friday night in Heaven at the Masquerade. There are three areas of this venue that are geared for different functions. We will have all three for Convergence. Purgatory is set up for quiet conversation and general socializing (w/ a bar). Hell is set up for Dancing (w/ a bar). Heaven is geared for Bands with a big stage opposite a bar area that is sectioned off from the regular space. Atlanta's Drinking LawsOur bars close at 4am. Our beer/wine/liqueur stores ('package stores') are closed on Sundays but are allowed to operate (Atlanta City limits from 8am - 11:45pm). Our bars close at 4am most nights except Saturday night inwhich they close at 3am. Several bars in Atlanta have a 24/7 permit. Our Sunday night venue (Riviera) has one of these. |
