Hotel

We have located a potential Hotel match!!

It is the Omni Hotel. It is in Downtown Atlanta and faces the Olympic Centennial Park. It has a number of restaurants nearby, several meeting rooms and several large ball room spaces.

Rates for rooms at the Omni hotel have been revised to $99 for a single/double occupancy and $109 for a triple/quad occupancy. The Omni is starting to look better and better for us as a venue.

Travel time to L5P and Virginia Highlands from the Omni is about 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. Points of interest nearby are CNN (in the same complex), Centennial Park, and underground Atlanta.

The Omni Hotel hosted Atlanta Fantasy Fair a number of years ago. It most recently hosted a local Hacker con. Strangeness isn't terribly strange to them.

Bear in mind that we are still looking for something potentially better if it comes up. Our particular points of interest in the hotel is Price and facilities. $100 for single occupancy seems to be a cap in Atlanta (downtown) for a good room and a good hotel staff. We may potentially find something else. We intend on finding the best possible deal.

Aside from the main Hotel that we finally settle on, there are a whole slew of good hotels Downtown ranging from very cheap to very swank. More information on alternate hotels and locations/price will be made available.

Shopping

Atlanta has a very good selection of shops for all sorts of clothes. Most of the stores are in the Little 5 Points area or the Virginia Highlands area. Va-Hi and L5P are east of Atlanta and are centered on Virginia Ave/Highland Ave and along Euclid Ave/Moreland Ave respectively. The areas are effectively bisected by Ponce de Leon Ave just inside the Atlanta City Limits.

Stefan's- Vintage clothing of a more elegant form than your average store. A great place for old style formal coats, gowns, swank suits and other nice things.

Trashy Diva- Purveyor of period women's wear. Vintage clothing and corsets.

La Raine's Boutique- Victorian inspired clothing, objects, and gowns.

Rene Rene- An Avant Garde fashion designer that has been in Atlanta for 15+ years.

Abbadabba's- (watch out for the site's cheesy music ;^) shoes, shoes, and more shoes... some handbags as well... [421B Moreland 404.588.9577 although there are other locations throughout town as well]

Bill Hallman- A Local designer with quite a few interesting boots and other items.

Hot Topic- For the brave of heart, more for the "mall-g*th", although they do have a great selection of tights... [two locations- one in Gwinnett Mall, and one in Town Center Mall] Both are quite a drive however.

Criminal Records*- music store [466 Moreland 404.215.9511]

Corner CD - Music store, not really gothy but if you want to look for something more main streamish or peculiar (good selection of keltic stuff) they very well could have it.

Tower Records- one of the giants, but they do have a great selections [In the Around Lenox shopping center, next to Lenox Mall 404.264.1217]

Wuxtry- Used Records since 1976. Not in L5P/Va-Hi but a good place to go. Over just beyond Emory at the intersection of Clairmont and North Decatur.

Stuff:

Highland Hardware- Not goth at all, but if you are any kind of craftsman or just like tools then this place is for you. It has more fine woodworking tools than you can shake a dovetail jig at.

Metropolitan Deluxe- Flowers, furniture, chocolate, cards, gifts, ...stuff

Food:

This is a sample of some of the food we have. The Highlands (Va-Hi) and L5P areas are packed with great restaurants and cafes.

L5P
Vortex- if you dare walk through the mouth of a friendly happy skull.

Savage Pizza - A pizza place with a Comic motif. Very different and very good pizza. Not Domino's or Pizza Hut.

Planet Bombay- Vindaloo, curry, nan, dansak, etc.

Calcutta Indian Cuisine- Even more Indian Food.

Aurora Coffee- Right next to Junkman's and Criminal Records.

The Bridgetown Grill- Jamaican Jerk Chicken and similar fair.

Euclid Avenue Yacht Club- Yuppie bikers from Buckhead, but a nice staff and lots to drink.

BrewHouse Cafe- Good beer, need we say more?

Va-Hi and Poncy Highlands
Neighbors Pub- a bit yuppie but *G* their French fries are sooo good.

Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream- Get some Ice cream and sit on the terrace on top of the roof! Yummy, yummy!

Starbucks Coffee- It is by the beans of java I set my mind in motion.... [Virginia Highlands, 800 N Highland Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30306, (404) 249-6268]

Surin of Thailand- A good Thai place in Virginia Highlands. [810 North Highland Avenue - 892-7789]
