Convergence 7 Proposal - Dallas, TX
April 13-15, 2001

Dallas, Texas: Cowboy boots, an 80's TV show about crooked oil barons, and assassinated presidents--some of the thoughts that quickly pop to mind. Yet unbeknownst to most, one of the largest thriving underground Gothic subcultures in the nation calls Dallas home. With a six year history and counting, the most popular Gothic club nights take place on a bi-weekly basis, and play host to an average of 600-900 people. In addition to these two nights there are many events, numerous local bands, and live shows organized by local gothic promoters and DJs each month. These events, along with countless Goth-friendly Retro club nights can all be easily found in the Deep Ellum area of Dallas. Deep Ellum blends industrial architecture, fringe culture, live entertainment, and exotic food all together in one convenient location. This famous art district has remained the core of deviant culture for many years, and will be the backdrop of Convergence 7 should Dallas host.

Dallas proposes to hold C7 over Easter weekend (April 13-15), 2001. While this may seem early to some, it was very important to the Dallas Committee to present a firm date from the beginning. Dallas's weather in April is generally pleasant with temperatures averaging a high of 77 degrees, and lows around 54 degrees Fahrenheit. Cooler in the evenings, the weather is perfect for wearing velvets, vinyl, and elaborately layered costumes. We would like to show off what our city has to offer Convergence--not the scorching 100 degree-plus Texas summer heat.

Skeleton The Dallas committee would like to present a theme based Convergence for C7 with, "El Dia y el Noche de los Muertos"--Spanish for "The Day (and Night) of the Dead". The theme is inspired by the Mexican celebration honoring the dead traditionally held each year in November. The spirit of the celebration will be an undercurrent for the entire weekend, with added emphasis on "El Noche de los Muertos", Sunday night's event.
