New York City is one of the most remarkable cities in North America. Blanketed in a quilt of diversity and historic significance, it is a favorite of travelers from all over the world.

It is called "The City that Never Sleeps", and indeed there is always somewhere fascinating to go, something exciting to do. It offers visitors constant stimulation, ease of navigation and affordable, reliable transportation. This minimizes much of the stress, confusion and expense a first-time visitor may expect to encounter in other major cities.

As a cherished home to all things sensual and mysterious, it should naturally lend itself to an event like Convergence 7. One of America's largest bohemian meccas, New York City offers exotic cafes which never close, a vast array of deviant merchants, and a nightlife which features bars and clubs that remain open until 4 AM and beyond. Together, the East Village and West Village are replete with more goth-friendly restaurants and shops (all within walking distance of each other) than most people can find in their entire state. For many who love it, New York City is the ultimate haven for the decadent, the devilish, and the dark.

New York's long tenure as a major center of commerce has led to a unique blend of architecture and culture found nowhere else on the planet. The cityscape is rich with elements of European, Asian, Native American and other cultures— it is a microcosm of our world, a truly cosmopolitan place.

New York is an amalgam of art and architecture from virtually every place else. Natives have seen everything and been everywhere. Visitors and wanderers can be as public or private as they wish; dress, think, live as they wish. The energy of the city has always kept it contemporary, yet it shows a more traditional, older side. Many of the backstreets are still paved with cobblestones, the spires of antique cathedrals jut from between aisles of skyscrapers, age-old cemeteries sit side by side with supermarkets and quaint parks. Stark and ornate, futuristic and historic, the city derives much of its beauty from its distinctive contrasts and juxtapositions. It is full of paradoxes and contradictions, but therein lies its poetry and its magic.

The organizers of this proposal for New York City are seasoned veterans of online gothic culture who have already laid the foundation for a truly outstanding Convergence. The proposal is true to the original spirit of Convergence, but holds new wonders and many opportunities to spend a memorable time with friends, both amidst throngs and in private. It is our sincere aim to show off the very best of the city in the most delectable and affordable manner possible. We also hope to evoke the creativity of Net.Goths everywhere by soliciting your input throughout the planning process.

We invite you, the Net.Goth community, to consider New York for the next Convergence. Convergence is your gathering, and we wish the honor of being your hosts. With your help, we will make this an event to be remembered.
