We are delighted by its extraordinary style and abundance of amenities and conveniences, and we hope you will be equally impressed. The Roosevelt Hotel was built in 1924 and rapidly became one of the key landmarks of Manhattan. Containing over a thousand rooms and thirty suites, it occupies the majority of a city block. The lobby is constructed largely of striated marble with towering pillars and chandeliers. Its ballrooms, conference rooms, and rooms range from outstanding to breathtaking in the quality of furnishings and atmosphere. Local legend has it that the hotel is haunted. The hotel has its own restaurant and bar, gift shop, valet laundry and dry cleaning, fitness equipment, and PC lending service. Room service includes vegetarian entrees and is available until 4AM, and
there is a 24-hour delicatessen and grocery store as well. Numerous local restaurants deliver to the hotel at all hours. The hotel is situated in one of the most central, safe, and accessible locations in the city. It is only a few blocks from Grand Central Station, which has convenient access to the subways, buses, and airports. Valet parking is also available. The Roosevelt is also an ideal hotel choice in that the management and staff have demonstrated their ability to work with a "freaky" clintele. This hotel has previously been host to, among other things, several Star Trek conventions and a Gay/Lesbian event. We are pleased to say that we have heard nothing but glowing reports about the professionalism and hospitality of the hotel staff. We feel confident that the Roosevelt Hotel is an environment in which all Convergence-goers will feel comfortable and respected. All rooms are furnished with: Dual telephone lines with dataports and voicemailAir conditioningCable television with in-room moviesHairdryers, irons and boardsMany rooms have high-bandwidth Internet access, and more will be installed throughout the coming year. All public and many private rooms are wheelchair accessible and ADA compliant. Though negotiations are still ongoing with the hotel, we already have a binding agreement that rooms will be no more than $160 a night for up to quadruple occupancy. This is a luxury hotel with an antique and romantic flair, providing us an uncommon and wonderful bargain. Transportation between the hotel and the airports comes in several flavors, each according to your preference. The most economical choice are the shuttles from JFK and LaGuardia which take you to the subway (total $1.50). Another
excellent option the variety of commercial bus shuttles which provide door-to-door service from each of the three airports, with prices in the range of $10-$15. There are also taxi cabs available at each airport that can take you to The Roosevelt, with commission-regulated flat rates of about $30. Quicktime Movies
