Welcome
to Chicago's C7 Bid: "The 7 Deadly Sins"
We've chosen to use
the theme of "The Seven Deadly Sins" because they can be found
all over the NetGoth world, usually equaling a whole lot of fun!
>;)
- Lust ("Nice
boots!")
- Envy ("Nice
boots- I want them!")
- Greed (Just
how many pairs of boots does one need to feel gratified?)
- Gluttony
(Chocolate dipped strawberries & drunken debauchery, anyone?)
- Sloth (Hooray
for sleeping in!)
- Wrath (Some
of the best flames ever occur on alt.gothic!)
- Pride (Could
you be Goth without it?)

Ground
Zero
- The proposed "Seven
Deadly Sins" C7 is centralized at Ground Zero.
The area noted as being the "alternative" part of town is the
intersection of Belmont (3200 N.) and Clark (900 W.), properly
called Lakeview. This is where most of the events would occur.
The area is also only a short walk down to beautiful Lake Michigan.
The Belmont & Clark area (as locals call it) is really the crossroads
of the city. Walk in any direction from that intersection and
you will run into a multitude of freak friendly shops, restaurants
and clubs. Just east of Clark St. is "Boystown", the home of
the gay & lesbian community. Dozens of clothing and fetish shops
line Halsted Street, which runs parallel one block east of Clark.
The Cabaret Metro is about 6 blocks north of this intersection.
Why
Chicago?
- We're centrally
located in North America.
- It's extremely
easy to travel to Chicago by plane, automobile, or train. (See
travel section)
- The proposed dates
that we've chosen for Convergence are off-peak so that the cost
of travel is inexpensive. Also, since we haven't chosen a holiday
weekend for C7, there wouldn't be holiday travel congestion
or increased airfares.
- Should we win the
vote, we would only charge between $30-$40 per person for Convergence
7 & we can offer attendees the ease & advantage of not only
accepting check or cash payment, but credit cards as well. You
will be able to charge over the phone or through the post.
We are also working on adding an on-line credit card payment
center.
- The weather in Chicago
in the first week of June should be agreeable to just about
everyone! (Warm, but not hot; not the rainy season; no blizzards!).
The average temperature for this time of year is 68.5F.
- Cabaret
Metro where the main events would be held, is an 18 and
over venue. It has a late license (for late night partying!),
boasts a fantastic stage, sound & lighting system & a very Goth
friendly staff! Members of our committee have held numerous
events at Metro & have had an excellent working relationship
with the club for nearly a decade.
- The shopping in
Chicago is absolutely amazing! (See shopping
guide!)
- There are countless
attractions that the city offers. Amongst these are the renowned
Museum of Science and Industry,
The Field Museum of Natural History,
The Shedd Aquarium, the
must-see Museum of the
Art Institute of Chicago, and the beautiful shores of Lake
Michigan. (see attractions)
- The Chicago scene
is vibrant and thriving. There are many Goth friendly nightclubs
& bars including:
- Berlin, 954
W. Belmont Ave.
- Crobar the Nightclub,
1543 N. Kingsbury Ave.
- Delilah's, 2771
N. Lincoln Ave.
- Exit, 1315
W. North Ave.
- Lava Lounge,
859 N. Damen Ave.
- Morseland, 1218
W. Morse Ave.
- Mutiny, 2428
N. Western Ave.
- Neo, 2350 N.
Clark St.
- Smart Bar, 3730
N. Clark St.
- Spin, 800 W.
Belmont Ave.
- The collective
experience, personal interest and long standing involvement
in the NetGoth scene of the Chicago C7 committee would ensure
a grassroots yet professional & competent Convergence.

Why
Chicago again?
- Convergence has
changed dramatically since C1. Our committee has witnessed many
of these changes first hand through our own attendance. We've
all learned a lot & believe that we can successfully incorporate
both the old and the new.
- The number of Net.Goths
has jumped exponentially since 1995 & Chicago's infrastructure
ensures that it is definitely a city that can accommodate these
growing numbers.
- Many current Convergence
attendees have said they wished that they had been present at
the first Convergence which was held in Chicago in 1995.
- See all the reasons
in "Why Chicago?" above!
