Naturally, we'd love
to plan your entire weekend for you, sunrise to sunset and beyond,
but reality dictates the need for relaxation, food, and shopping.
Our goal is to provide you with the well-planned events you've
come to expect from Convergence, while still leaving you the time
you need to get together with friends and explore Chicago at your
own pace. Of course, the committee would be happy to help with
the planning of any unofficial events.
Note: due
to the extraordinary layout of Chicago, all our evening events,
and all but one of our daytime events, would be within the general
area of the C7 hotel. Convenience is priceless, especially when
you're toasted. ;)
Should we host C7,
it will be our great honor to welcome you to our primary venue,
Cabaret Metro. The Metro is one of the most venerated live music
establishments in North America, having hosted all manner of alternative
bands for over 15 years. It has the combined advantages of a large
dance floor on the main level and an immense second floor balcony
(perfect for sitting, drinking, and chatting.) What's more, the
stage can be easily seen from most anywhere in the club. Metro
boasts two large bars (and for the connoisseur, stocked with fine
single malt scotches), a cocktail wait-staff, and goth-friendly
personnel. Since they utilize wristbands to identify 21+, younger
attendees can easily interact with everyone, free of any physical
boundaries (the 21+ section, etc.) We would cap attendance at
300 below the Metro's capacity, everyone should have plenty of
elbow room, poofy dresses and all :D.
View
images of the Metro. Of course, for Convergence Metro would
be gloriously decorated to fit with our proposed theme of "The
Seven Deadly Sins."
Proposed
Dates

1 June, 2001
- Saturday,
2 June, 2001
- Sunday,
3 June, 2001
Thursday
(unofficial event)
- For those who arrive
early, join us for a night of booze'n'movies at the Vic Theater'sÝ"Brew
and View," where we can MST3K our favorite goth classics
over munchies and cider. This vintage theater has provided a
smaller more intimate venue for famous "alternative"
bands like The Cure and My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult. The
architecturally ornate theater is transformed into a second
run movie theater during the week. The environment is casual
and absolutely fitting as a preface to a sinful weekend. (18+/21+
to drink)
- We invite you to
s tumble up the block with us to Spin, Berlin, or one of Chicago's
many otherÝ Goth-friendly clubs for more introductions, camaraderie
& libations. In the spirit of Ground Zero, the theater
and night clubs are only a short walk from the proposed hotel.

Friday
- Come to the Meet
& Greet at the official hotel's meeting room. Pick up your laminates
and goody-bags full of city information, maps and most importantly
coupons for many of Chicago's Goth-friendly stores. Who-knows-what
other goodies will be found in your welcome bag. Afterwards,
stick around to hunt down old friends or ambush new ones.Ý (4:00pm
- 9:00pm / all ages)
- Main Evening
Event: Join us for "Skins of Seven Deadly Sins"
where designers feature their gorgeous fashion creations. We
would invite alt.gothic.fashion designers and alt.gothic.fashion
models to engage in the sin pride, by presenting their
finery. Partake in envy while witnessing the unveiling
of a series of one of a kind designs. Each design will commemorate
one of the deadly sins to start the debaucherous weekend.
- Afterwards, we'd
have international d.j.s spinning for your dancing pleasure.ÝStay
up with us and participate in more sinning.(10:00pm - 3:30am

Saturday
- Main Day Event:
A Gluttonous Goth Picnic! Load up on savory food and
drink, don't forget the dessert. Come out to Chicago's gorgeous
Lincoln Park and let the gluttony
begin. Suggestions on where you can purchase a not-quite-homemade
picnic lunch will be provided. Put out a blanket or sit on the
luscious green lawn
and soak in the scenery.
- A string quartet
will provide a perfect musical backdrop to match the luscious
view. Enjoy the sounds of violins and cellos while lounging
amongst your kindred spirits.
- We'll provide
the lemonade and iced tea; you provide that festive, perky
mood that makes Goth so notorious.
- If you're not
partaking in the sin sloth, join in our large-scale
croquet match. Do you remember Alice In Wonderland? This
croquet match does not include the pink flamingos, but it
does include a healthy dose of wrath. Team up with
your fellow net.goths and play. Unleash your competitive
self!
- After your meal,
wander just up the path to the Lincoln
Park Conservatory and Museum or the free Lincoln
Park Zoo. The zoo is one of the oldest in the US. The
Creatures of Habitat exhibit has more than 200 creatures
living in a $12-million greenhouse with rain forests, savannas
and deserts recreated under a 45-foot high glass dome. (1:00pm
- 4:00pm / all ages)
Warning: Soft green
grass is imminent; wear stiletto heels at your own peril!

- Main Evening
Event: Convergence just wouldn't be right without live bands,
so tonight we'd like to have three. Dance, drink, and be merry.
No deadly sins are included this night. However, we are sure
you won't have a problem coming up with your own! Performance
details will be announced later if we're nominated. NetGoth
d.j.s will supply tunes before, in between & after the bands,
so get your rest and wear comfortable shoes: This night will
keep you dancing until dawn (nearly!)Ý (9:00pm - 4:30am / 18+)

Sunday
- Main Event:
Greed and Lust Gallery. Visit the Vendor's Bazaar and
NetGoth Art Show in the hotel meeting room. Engage in the sins
of greed and envy as you peruse the vendor's wares
and the works by talented artists. Shopping and eye-candy at
your own back door, need we to say more? The gallery would be
available for you to visit throughout the day. No need to rush.
Pick and choose your agenda. sloth is a highly acceptable
way to to save up energy for the evening event.(11:00am - 6:00pm
/ all ages)
- Main Event:
China-Town Shopping and Ghost Tour. More greed
and gluttony. Swords, silk clothing, Hello Kitty, and
food that must be eaten with chopsticks, Chicago's Chinatown
is large, colorful and full of goodies. What's more, it's haunted!
The guided ghost tour is on foot, includes lunch, and takes
about two hours.Ý We're in negotiation for a discounted price
for the tour, but it would be a nominal additional charge. Yes,
this would be that one (1) event that is not within screaming
distance of the hotel, but it's well worth the easy train ride.
(Mid-afternoon; all ages)
- Main Event:
"The Dance of the Seven Deadly Sins". As
the final night of C7, this would be the time to leave a lasting
impression! So stock up on your sins: Lust, Envy, Greed,
Gluttony, Wrath, and Pride (perhaps leave sloth for
Monday night?). Come dressed to represent, personify, or pay
tribute to your favorite "sin(s)." Strut your sinful stuff on
stage and maybe win a prize from one of Chicago's many Goth-friendly
shops. "The Dance of the Seven Deadly Sins" would
prove to bring a glorious end to what we hope will be a memorable
weekend. Additional bands and d.j.s will help keep the energy
flowing as we close out another Convergence. (9:00pm - 3:00am
/ 18+)

Other
Events
- There are a plethora
of attractions, sites to see & shopping opportunities in Chicago.Ý
We'll provide you with a comprehensive list & you choose!Ý We
also expect that other people will want to arrange other semiofficial
events, such as the Goth Swap, ElderGoth cocktail meeting &
AGF shopping trip. There's sure to be a few late-night hotel
soirees, too!
- Chicago has so many
attractions to offer for attendees who are looking for alternatives
to official events. The pool hall where weekly Free Goth pool
nights are held is just a short journey from the proposed hotel.
Visit the International
Museum of Surgical Science, the only one in the
US. You'll find unique instruments of evisceration as well as
many other bizarre oddities. Join Richard T. Crowe, official
ghost hunter, as he takes you on a tour of supernatural sites
in Chicago. These are just a few ideas. Again, we would be happy
to assist in planning suitable alternatives. (See attractions
for a list of other alternatives)
